Sunday Smorgasbord (feat. Daniel Klauser, Copia Doble Systema, Roberto Silva)

This is to make up for the fact that I was absent for a bit, a little bit of everything good.

First is more Daniel Klauser, the up-and-coming Chilean producer with an Andes vibe. He carries his typical flavor into some rocking dancehall on the Rootz EP (Get Flavor Records)

Next is a little bit of Copia Doble Systema, a Danish group that bills itself as "Viking Cumbia Crunk Carioca". Now that might not make a whole lot of sense, but they're absolutely worth checking out, they have an unmatched digital cumbia sound.

Kickin' off Samba Week

Oi,

So a friend of mine just passed me a ton of Samba and MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) and I've currently been attempting to digest what I can of it. So.... I'm gonna only kick it with the samba for a little bit, at least the rest of the week. First is Casuarina, an upbeat samba group from Rio that began in 2001. This is from a 2009 live concert at the Fundição Progresso in Lapa, a fantastic venue; as is usually the case, they interpret a lot of samba classics.

Some samba for your morning

Cartola is one of the most famous Brasilian samba musicians, born and raised in the favelas of Rio. In the early 60s he formed the most well-known samba club of that era, linking sambistas with the emerging Bossa Nova movement. I picked up a few of his CDs the other day, and here are a couple of my favorite tracks.
