DJ Dus - K Le pasa

Dude's from Texas, but he makes me want to go party in Colombia, this is a hoppin' track. Based off an older Cumbia song from 1968:

Kudurific Egyptian Bliss

Earlier this month, Enchufada's Roulet and NaZaretH released the killer Aegyptus EP, trading remixes of some jammin Kuduro beats with a distinctly Egyptian flavor. Don't really know how they picked that up, NaZaretH is Angolan and is Portuguese. Anyway, this EP really gives you a taste of their different styles. Roulet comes through with his typical drum polyrythms (surprising us also with a floating house-y tune, Isis) and NaZaretH shows a dark, grimy side of Kuduro that I don't normally see (Pyramid and his remix of Oasis). If you're only gonna check two tunes, listen to Oasis and Osiris.

AEGYPTUS download link on description xD by Roulet

They were kind enough to release this EP for free, so go download it here: http://www.mediafire.com/?tkagkrn9neyk2rg (pw: kuduro)

Hat tip to Ghetto Bassquake for picking this up.

Next post is a quick preview of some of my favorite Kuduro tunes to date.

Burakaaaaaa

The new Buraka Som Sistema album just dropped, hells yes. They're a portuguese group that blends Angolan kuduro, house, and hip hop to make their own brand of music unlike anything else out there. If you don't know who they are, I highly recommend you check out their first album, Black Diamond (2008), and their From Buraka to the World EP (2006). But way more exciting is their new album, Komba, which came out three days ago and I just got a hold of. It retains their rawness and epic dancibility, and adds a little bit more vocals. In my opinion a few tracks are a little bit more pop-y (one or two maybe too much so), but the rest are massive.

Off Komba (2011):

Candonga

Tira o Pe:

Hangover (bababa)

This one has been out for a while, and to be honest I didn't like it for the first couple of times I listened. But it grows on you. Also, I think it's hilarious that they're saying nha nha nha nha nha…, brings out the 5 year old in me.

And here's a taste of the poppier side (still good)
Voodoo Love

And as a bonus, two sick remixes:
Kurum (Roulet Remix)

Roulet is another member of Buraka's Enchufada label, and Buraka always seems to throw this down in their sets.

Luanda Lisboa (DJ Znobia Remix) - Sorry, I don't have a playable link, but here's a download.

Znobia is an an awesome Angolan Kuduro dj from Luanda who has produced on Enchufada as well. The original Luanda Lisboa was produced with Znobia, and this is his spin.

Some samba for your morning

Cartola is one of the most famous Brasilian samba musicians, born and raised in the favelas of Rio. In the early 60s he formed the most well-known samba club of that era, linking sambistas with the emerging Bossa Nova movement. I picked up a few of his CDs the other day, and here are a couple of my favorite tracks.

Preciso Me Encontrar off Cartola II (1976)

Alvorada off Cartola (1974)

As Rosas Não Falam off Cartola II (1976)

Corre e Olhe o Céu off Cartola (1974)

Schlachthofbronx is quite a mouthful

If I was just listening to this duo from Munich, there was no way that I would pick up that they were from Germany. The name kinda gives it away, though I have noo idea what it means. They're fans of Latin music, sirens, and really heavy baselines.

These are my two favorites off their most recent Carimbo EP on Man Records (which is awesome, by the way), and I'm sorry to say that I don't have a download. But they are really killer. Carimbo has a bit more Brasilian flavor, which I dig.
The Kazoo by schlachthofbronx

Carimbo by schlachthofbronx

And here are another few of my favorites. I recommend you take a look at their soundcloud.

Chambacu (released on Mad Decent)

Mad Instrument off their self-titled 2009 album.

And a little bit of Dub to lighten your morning.

The Smiths

I've recently been on a Smiths kick, and I'm constantly surprised how ahead of their time they were. A lot of the stuff that they were putting out in the 1980s sounds like it could be released today. Personally, their first album takes the cake. These made my top played list:

Reel Around the Fountain off The Smiths (1984)

Pretty Girls Make Graves off The Smiths (1984)

This Charming Man off The Smiths (1984)

A Rush And A Push and the Land is Ours off Strangeways, Here We Come (1987)

Alphabreak

I picked this group's albums up yesterday, and I've really been digging them since. Mostly its a melodic, orchestral-driven glitch in the same vein as Pretty Lights. From france, a couple of the songs on their newest album have french rappers, and they definitely have some heavy hip hop influences.

Here are three of my favorites from their recently-released Meteor-A:
Lift Me Up

A.C.D.C. (A Cold December Comes)

S.E.T. (Strain/Earth/Time)

In 2010, they also did a remake of Daft Punk's Discovery, titled "Rediscovery." Hit it up, it's pretty decent. Here's a taste.

Addicted to the Conga

I'm pretty sure the Bongo and Congo are two of my favorite instruments, maybe because they always seem to be playing really interesting rhythms. And I'm a drummer by heart. So first are two songs by one of my favorite Latin artists, Sergent Garcia, who technically is French but plays a blend of Reggae, Salsa, and Cuban rhythms. He did release a killer Cumbia album in 2009, though.

Yo Me Voy Pa' la Cumbia - Sergent Garcia off Cumbiamuffin EP (2009)

and
Amor Pa' Mi - Sergent Garcia off Cumbiamuffin EP (2009)

And one of my favorite songs from Buena Vista Social Club.
El Cuarto de Tula - Buena Vista Social Club (1997)

Here's is a jam that makes it hard not to dance, it really kills those polyrhythms. Solo is a UK-based producer that really sounds like he should be from Portugal. I'm gonna go ahead and say those are electronically-modified congas...

Joga Bola - Solo (2009)

As a bonus, here's a recent hit by Laidback Luke and Gina Turner, released under the moniker Nouveau Yorican. Give it until the second drop, it only gets better.

Chiuso - Nouveau Yorican (2011)

Goddamn do I love that latin-influenced house.

Forever

I've been wanting to do this since the summer, and I am finally getting around to setting it up.  I'm planning on posting anything that I'm currently listening to on a daily-ish basis, a mix of indie, electronic, hip hop and whatever else I feel like, new and old. Expect music from all over the world.  So get ready.

The first song has to be the inspiration for this blog, a jam if I've ever heard one.  I don't remember how I found this, but I think it may have been because Bassnectar used to (and still might) throw this down in his sets. Put on good headphones or plug into speakers.

Strawberry Jam Forever - A.Skillz

Here are another couple of other songs from the summer that I wanted to post:

Chrome Optimism (Kush Arora's Tropical Bass Remix) - Dubblestandart with David Lynch and Lee Scratch Perry

Tremor (Chancha via Circuito ft. Wenceslada Remix) - Caracol

Pun Ain't Dead - Munchi (Mooooombahton to the max)

Mexican Mavis - Boy & Bear (Reminiscent of the Fleet Foxes)

Lassitude - Dj Fresh (a massive DnB track)
